The tradition of the honeymoon has its origins in less romantic times, when warriors captured their brides by force and kept them in hiding for a period of time to prevent her distressed family from finding her. The word “honeymoon” itself comes from honey that the bride and groom drank during their first month of marriage presumably to celebrate or possibly to loosen their inhibitions while getting to know each other.
